The Ironton Fighting Tigers moved their game to Thursday in order to miss the downpour. The Boyd County Lions weren't as lucky.

Using a balanced offensive attack, Ironton scored on seven of its nine possession and drenched the scoreboard in points as the Fighting Tigers stormed past the Lions 56-7 Thursday night at Tanks Memorial Stadium.

"It's a good thing we moved the game. First of all, we saved our field," Ironton coach Bob Lutz said. "If we wait until Friday, we might get a monsoon and then we would never have gotten in the game."

Not only did Ironton improve to 4-0 on the season, but Lutz took over sole possession of second place on the Ohio high school all-time victory list with 324. Retired Terry Malone of Hamilton is the all-time leader with 360.

Other than a few sprinkles during the game, Ironton stayed on course with 459 total yards including 361 on the ground.

Marcus Williams had 96 yards on 15 carries, Darius Lewis 65 on 14 attempts, and backup fullback Andrew Walker had 86 yards on 10 rushes to lead Ironton.

Quarterback Josh Adkins completed 4 of 7 passes for 98 yards. He threw for one score and ran for another.

"I just try to get the ball out there where they can get a good angle and see it," Adkins said.

Alshuhon Smith had 67 yards on just six carries to lead the Lions (1-4) who had just 129 total yards including 100 yards against the second team defense.

"We felt Boyd had lost some good players, but we thought their line was better than last year," Lutz said. "They have some skilled players who could make big plays. We felt coming into the game they had big play capabilities and we thought they were a dangerous team."

Ironton scored on its first possession by driving 65 yards on 11 plays with Williams going the final 10 yards. Greg Igo boomed the conversion and it was 7-0.

Following a three-and-out by the Lions, Ironton went 58 yards in nine plays with Lewis pounding in the final 2 yards.

Leading 14-0, Ironton got a safety on a tackle by Josh Carty and Brandon Walker against the Lions quarterback Derek Jackson in the end zone and it was 16-0.

After the free kick, Ironton moved just 32 yards in five plays with Lewis getting his second TD on a 5-yard run for a 22-0 lead.

With time running out, Ironton got a score just before the half on a 37-yard pass from Adkins to Shane Kerns. The conversion failed and it was 28-0 with just 11 seconds on the clock.

The Fighting Tigers took the second half kickoff and went 65 yards in eight plays to score. Kerns had a 35-yard reception to key the drive that ended on a 6-yard keeper by Adkins. Igo's conversion put the lead at 35-0.

Lewis came up with an interception at the Lions 38 and five plays later backup quarterback Chad Miller scooted 20 yards for a touchdown and it was 42-0 with 4:25 in the quarter.

Boyd County avoided the shutout on a 30-yard run by Smith with 1:25 left in the third quarter.

Walker had a 1-yard scoring run and Brandin Sites went 20 yards for the final score as the Ironton reserves finished up.
