AID – Pitching, defense and clutch hitting.
The Green Bobcats did all the things needed to win as they beat the Symmes Valley Vikings 5-3 on Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
Colton Brammer pitched a five-hitter, struck out five and walked three to get the win. Mike Avery was 3-4 with two runs batted in and Cody Bruce and Adam Riffitt each went 2-3.
“It was a total team effort,” said Green coach Dan McDavid. “Mike Avery had a standout game. He had seven chances at third base and was perfect. Colton Brammer also stepped up big.”
Mitch Corn struck out six, gave up eight hits and did not walk a batter in taking the loss.
Each team got a run in the third inning.
Riffitt double and Avery singled for Green’s run while Scott Dial doubled, D.J. Miller had a sacrifice bunt and Alec Herrell a sacrifice fly for the Vikings.
Green (3-2, 2-1) scored three times in the fourth.
Bruce singled, Brammer reached on an error and Ratcliff’s sacrifice bunt was thrown away allowing a run to score. Matt Howard then put down a perfect squeeze bunt and Avery’s RBI single capped the rally.
Jordan Fulford and Dylan Pelletier singled and a balk gave the Vikings a run in the bottom of the inning.
The Vikings got within 4-3 in the sixth on Miller’s rbi double, but Green added an insurance run in the seventh when Avery doubled, Bruce walked and Brammer singled.
