What does democracy and the October Community Festival have in common? Both are for the people, by the people.

Just like a pumpkin on a vine, the new Saturday and Sunday festival grew from a seed. It did not go into the ground but took growth when a group of concerned citizens approached Coal Grove Betterment Club President Sue Triplett about a way to help the club generate more money to put back into the community.

"This community is just like a big family. They have all just jumped in and helped by donating this or donating that," Triplett said. "It has just been fantastic. People and business have really just bent over backwards."

The fall fun will be from 10 a.m.

to 7 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at The Grove Nursery, 115 Marion Pike.

Organizers have tried to lineup fun and food for everyone with activities

that include nearly 10 bands performing a variety of music on Saturday and gospel music on Sunday, raffles, a pig roast, face paintings, split the pot, a Halloween costume contest at 4 p.m. Saturday, lots of vendors and countless edible goodies.

"It is going to be a lot of fun. We will have a lot of music, some from Fun Days, some new ones," Triplett said excitedly as she encouraged everyone to come support the event. "We will be doing some new things for the club."

Don't think that any money raised will just go to line someone's pocket. All proceeds will be spent on the club's civic endeavors this fall that include Christmas lights and other improvements in Paul Porter Park, treats for the annual Breakfast with Santa and flower planters along the village sidewalks in the spring.
