A season-ending loss cost Ironton an unbeaten season and a shot at the Associated Press Division IV poll championship.

The Fighting Tigers (9-1) lost a 17-14 heartbreaker on a blocked punt to Columbus St. Francis DeSales, a Division III power and playoff qualifier, and fell from No. 2 in the poll to fifth in the final voting.

Coldwater was the poll champion with 296 points and 19 first place votes. Akron Manchester was second, Martins Ferry third and Huron fourth.

Ironton had 157 points and two first place votes.

The rest of the top 10 was Jonathan Alder, Youngstown Cardinal Mooney, New Albany, Upper Sandusky and Youngstown Liberty.

Symmes Valley, 8-1, had its highest poll finish at No. 12 in Division VI with 29 points, up from 13th place and 18 points last week.

In Division V, Wheelersburg (9-1) climbed into the top 10 with a 10th place finish. The Pirates had 43 points, an increase of 25 points over last week when they were 13th.

The poll champions were Cincinnati Colerain in Division I, Avon Lake in Division II, Steubenville in Division III, Amanda Clearcreek in Division V and Bascom Hopewell-Loudon won in Division VI. Bascom had never finished in the top 10 in school history.

It was the second straight poll title for Steubenville.
