WeST LAFAYETTE - Phil Davis said he knew what questions were going to be asked. He just didn't have all the answers.

The Ridgewood Generals used a used a strong running game and a big fourth quarter to pull away to a 33-14 win over the Chesapeake Panthers Saturday night in a Division V Region 19 quaterfinal.

Ridgewood ran for 272 yards with Bryan Tolliver gettign 176 yards and Joe Shears 95.

"Give the Ridgewood running backs a lot of credit. Tolliver ran hard. He's an outstanding back," Davis said. "We knew what was coming, we just couldn't stop it."

The Panthers (8-3) held the lead early in the second quarter and trailed just 21-14 after three quarters. But missed opportunities and the Generals strong running game proved to be too much to overcome.

"We had a chance to go ahead early, but Ridgewood made a couple of stands. We couldn't take advantage of our opportunities," Davis said.

Ridgewood took a 7-0 lead on an 18-yard run by Tolliver to end a 51-yard drive, but the Pantehrs used a 31-yard run by Keith Marcum to set up a 26-yard touchdown pass from Caleb McComas to Jeff Thornburg and tie the game at 7-7.

The Generals tried a fake punt but the pass fell incomplete as the Panthers took over at midfield. Two plays later McComas found Dustin O'Brien for a 50-yard scoring strike and Chesapeake lead 14-7.

Josh McCormick returned the kickoff 51 yards to the Pantehrs 28 and Shears scored six plays later on a 5-yard run to tie the game at 14-14.

Chesapeake drove to the Generals 27 before the drive stalled on downs, and Ridgewood broke the deadlock as Tolliver bolted 68 yards for a touchdown with ust 1:08 on the clock to make it 21-14.

"Tolliver's run before the half was the straw that broke the camel's back," Davis said.

Ridgewood (10-1) drove to the 5-yard line in the fourth quarter before the Panthers held, but a three-and-out gave the ball back to the Generals at the 43 and they scored eight plays later on a 5-yard run by Tolliver. Brad Eldred blocked the extra point and it was 27-14.

Jarrod Grove returned an interception 27 yards to the Panthers 36 to set up the final score, a 7-yard run by Shears with 5:18 to play.

Shane Williams had a fumble recovery for the Panthers. Grove had two interceptions and Tolliver one for Ridgewood.
