PROCTORVILLE - The first time was one to remember.

The Fairland Dragons first home wrestling invitational proved to be a memorable one as they placed second behind Johnson Central (Ky.).

The Dragons placed 12 players as they had 106 points, second to Johnson Central at 119. Trimble was third at 62, Wellston 50, Poca, W.Va. 46, Ashland, Ky. 40 and Wahama, W.Va. 35

"I thought we had a great day. To have 12 players place in a tournament is good for a third-year team," said Fairland coach Chuck Wentz.

The Dragons were missing several players who were taking the ACT. Filling in for the Dragons were Chase Burke in the 130 class - he was third - and Michael Blatt who was second in the 189 division.

"Our backups wrestled very well," Wentz said. "The competition was extremely strong for a seven-team tournament."

Taking first place for the Dragons were Chuck Wentz at 103 pounds, Tim Layne at 152 and Daniel Cardwell in the 215 division.

In third place for Fairland were Michael Evans at 125, Jeremy Thomas, Ryan Chang and Tyler Grimmett. A fourth place finish went to the Dragons Josiah Eddy in the 160 division.

The Dragons wrestle in Wellston on Wednesday and then Saturday in the Johnson Central Invitational.
