South Point senior girls finally notch victory over Portsmouth, 55-34

PORTSMOUTH - The South Point Lady Pointers have finally made losers of the Portsmouth Lady Trojans.

South Point snapped a long losing streak at the hands of Portsmouth as the Lady Pointers routed the Lady Trojans 55-34 Monday.

"We played pretty good defense tonight," Lady Pointers coach Dave Adams said. "That's the first time our seniors have beaten Portsmouth even though our games have always been close. That's a good, solid win."

Latisha Koukos had 15 points to lead the Lady Pointers. Alisha Bridges added 11 points and 10 assists while Summer Malone pulled down 12 rebounds.

"It's been somebody different scoring every night, so that's a good thing," Adams said.

Tonya McKenzie scored 17 points to pace Portsmouth, 2-3.

South Point took a 14-9 first quarter lead as Malone got 6 points and Bridges hit a 3-pointer to offset 5 points by McKenzie.

Elisha Joyce got all 6 of her points in the second quarter and Bridges hit another 3-pointer as South Point built a 29-18 halftime cushion.

Craft and Bridges combined for 7 points in the third quarter as the lead held at 40-29.

Koukos scored 6 points in the fourth quarter and South Point converted 7 of 10 from the foul line including Bridges who was 5 of 6 down the stretch.

On Thursday, South Point plays at Chesapeake in their Ohio Valley Conference opener.
