Courthouse lawn not available, soccer field better, organizers say
Maybe the bunny is a good kicker, too.
The annual Ironton Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the Ironton Fire Department and the Ironton Business Association, is being moved this year to the Ironton soccer field on South Ninth Street across from the Liebert Corporation.
IBA member Lou Pyles said courthouse officials advised that the Lawrence County Courthouse lawn would not be available this year, so the decision was made to move the event to the soccer field.
“I think this will be better. We’ll have more room,” Pyles said.
Each year Ironton firefighters fill roughly 1,200 eggs with goodies and candy so that the children will find happy surprises in those colorful containers. Firefighter Louis Sheridan said it’s a labor of love.
“I’m a father and I know the kids enjoy it,” Sheridan said. “And for some kids, if we didn’t have this one, they might not get to go to an Easter egg hunt.”
After the egg hunt, the children can get their photographs made with the Easter Bunny.
The Ironton Easter Egg Hunt is always the Tuesday before Easter.
