SOUTH POINT - When the pressure was on the South Point Lady Pointers, they decided to apply some pressure.

Trailing by 5 points heading into the fourth quarter, the Lady Pointers went to their press and rallied for a 51-47 win over the Northwest Lady Mohawks to win their own South Point Holiday Tournament Thursday.

"That was a good win," Lady Pointers coach Dave Adams said. "Toward the end of the quarter we couldn't get anything to fall. But in the fourth quarter we pressed them and I think we wore them down a little. Once we got the tempo back up, we go some easy transition baskets."

Alisha Bridges scored 22 points to lead South Point's offense. Jessi Craft and Sarah Lee added 8 points each.

Christen Bradshaw had 16 points and Heather Ellis 13 for Northwest, 10-2.

Bridges scored 5 points including a 3-pointer as South Point took an 11-4 lead, but Bradshaw had 5 points and Ellis and Carrie Sanders 4 each as Northwest rallied to go up 15-11 at the end of the first quarter.

Bradshaw hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter as Northwest grabbed a 29-22 halftime lead.

But Bridges scored 7 points and Craft 4 in the third quarter as South Point began its comeback and trailed just 41-36.

Bridges and Elisha Bridges combined for 10 points in the fourth quarter and the defense limited Northwest to 6 points as the Lady Pointers rallied for the win.

"We played really good defense," Adams said. "They had some really good size, but we limited to just one shot at the end.

They hurt us early with second chance baskets."

Portsmouth got a 24-point performance from Tonya McKenzie to beat Fairland 55-49 in the consolation game. Megan Auxier had 17 points and Kara Riley 12 to lead Fairland (3-7).

Craft was voted the tournament's Most Valuable Player. The rest of the all-tournament team include Bridges, Summer Malone and Sarah Lee from South Point, Bradshaw and Katie Jordan of Northwest, Riley and McKenzie.
