MERCERVILLE - Chelsea Markins got hot, and in the process the South Gallia Lady Rebels got burned.

Markins erupted for 30 points as she led the Coal Grove Lady Hornets to a 60-40 rout of the Lady Rebels Saturday.

Markins connected on five 3-pointers as she amassed her total. Holli Swarts added 9 points as Coal Grove improved to 8-3.

Coal Grove jumped on South Gallia 22-13 the first quarter as Markins scored 13 points including three baskets from behind the arc.

Niki Fulks had 4 points in the second quarter as South Gallia outscored Coal Grove 8-7 and it was 29-21 at the break.

But the Lady Hornets blew the game open in the third quarter as Markins scored 11 points and Swarts 7 to extend the lead to a comfortable 50-27.

Julia Gwinn had 10 points to lead South Gallia.

In the reserve game, Coal Grove (4-4) won 28-24 as Brittany Harrison had 9 points and Kelli Grove 5.
