ASHLAND, Ky. — Kendall Dodgion might just be an amphibian.
While Dodgion spends her daily hours as a second grade student in Mrs. Ball’s Ironton Elementary School class, she spends her free time in the water.
Dodgion spend the weekend of March 2-4 in the water at the Kentucky YMCA Competitive Swim League State Championship Meet that featured 10 different teams with approximately 500 swimmers throughout the state.
Dodgion — competing in an age group against older swimmers — turned in an outstanding performance that included a gold medal.
Dodgion won a gold medal in the 100 individual medley despite being the youngest swimmer in the event. Her time qualified her for a championship race in Louisville March 24-25 at the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center.
The 2012 Kentucky Swim Spectacular is a closed meet and swimmers must qualify.
Besides her gold medal, Kendall claimed a bronze in the 25-yard fly event.
Kendall has been swimming with the AAY swim team for two years.
