CHESAPEAKE - Haven't we heard this story before?

It was the same story for the ninth straight game as the Chesapeake Panthers climbed all over the River Valley Raiders early and went on to an easy 69-50 win in an Ohio Valley Conference game Friday.

The Panthers raced to a 9-0 lead and led by as many as 16 before settling for a 20-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

"We played in spurts," Panthers coach Norm Persin said. "We started well and then just coasted from there. We played a lot people like we have in every game."

A key matchup was Chesapeake's 6-foot-6 Brennan Hall and River Valley's 6-6 Steven Harder. Hall finished with 14 points while Harder had 12 points before fouling out.

"Hall was facing a big kid and he stepped up and did a nice job," Persin said.

P.J. Rase scored 12 points to go along with eight assists and five rebounds. Trent Finley hit 3-of-4 3-pointers as he scored 11 points and Justin Porter had 11 points.

"Porter stepped up and played well. Finley shot the ball better. Late in the game we got good play from (Matt) Whitmore and (Brent) Ransbottom. Everybody stepped up and contributed again," Persin said.

Porter had 7 of his points in the first quarter as Chesapeake took the big lead. The Panthers were up 32-17 at the break.

The lead went to 50-30 after three quarters and Ransbottom scored 6 points in the fourth quarter as the Panthers substituted freely.

Chesapeake remains unbeaten in nine games and is 3-0 in the OVC.

Chris Roush led River Valley (4-5, 1-2) with 14 points and Colby Reese added 13.
