COAL GROVE - So that's what you mean by "coming up big."

The Symmes Valley Vikings limited the Coal Grove Hornets' inside players to just 8 points as they posted a 60-49 win Tuesday.

"Our big guys did a good job stopping their big guys inside," Vikings coach Alvin Carpenter said. "We knew that Lemon and Bare were big, strong kids who could score. We just wanted to shut them down and force them to beat us outside."

The Vikings (7-7) used a balance offense to get the win. Kyle Meadows and Michael White scored 10 points each while Craig Neal added 8 points. Justin Holland had five assists while Meadows had 10 rebounds and White nine.

Justin Hyland had 13 points and Randy Wise 10 to lead the Hornets (6-7).

Symmes Valley went up 10-6 at the end of the first quarter, and Meadows got 7 points in the second quarter as the lead grew to 29-19 at the break. Hyland scored 7 points to keep the Hornets within striking distance.

The Vikings pulled away to a 40-28 lead after three quarters. Justin Ferguson scored all 7 of his points in the fourth quarter and Holland and Cory Burcham combined to sink six straight foul shots down the stretch to secure the win.

Tyler Sexton had all 6 of his points in the fourth quarter for the Hornets who outscored the Vikings 21-20.
