CHESHIRE - This one was easy. The next one won't be.
The South Point Pointers will have little time to celebrate a 19-0 five inning no-hit spanking of the River Valley Raiders. They face unbeaten and Ohio Valley Conference favorite Fairland on Friday.
"We're pretty excited with our start, but Fairland will be a big one for us. They're the favorite and we're going to their place," Pointers coach Dave Adams said.
South Point improved to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the OVC as Adam McCarty, Anthony Ross and Kyle Hughes combined on a no-hitter.
The offense had 12 hits as nine different players got hits led by Rocky Roe who went 3-for-4.
The Pointers went up 2-0 in the first inning when Corey Smoot singled, Dale Kinney reached on an error, Ross walked, Justin Smith hit into force play for a run and Roe had an RBI single.
South Point got four more runs in the second inning for a 6-0 lead.
Tyler Wells walked, McCarty singled and Chris Brown was safe on an error as both runners scored. Smoot hit into a fielder's choice as a run scored and Ross capped the rally with a sacrifice fly.
A big 8-run fourth inning put the game out of reach at 14-0.
Ray reached on an error, Ross walked and Roe singled in both runners. Hughes and Wells walked and McCarty was safe on an error as two more runs scored.
Brown singled in two more runs and two passed balls scored two more.
South Point finished off the scoring with five runs in the fifth inning.
Roe and Hughes doubled for the first run. Wells then singled in Hughes and Smoot had an RBI single. Ray was safe on an error as a run scored and Phillip Williamson singled in the final run.
