LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky linebacker Chad Anderson, who led the Southeastern Conference in tackles in 2003 before falling out of favor with coaches and losing his starting job last year, has left the team, Kentucky football coach Rich Brooks said.
Anderson, a 6-2, 250-pound senior from Canton, Ohio, has withdrawn from school, Brooks said. Anderson had been suspended indefinitely from the team for academic reasons and was not participating in spring practice.
although his biography was included in the Wildcats' spring media guide.
As a sophomore, Anderson had 125 tackles, and his 11.4 per-game average led the SEC. He began the season as a reserve but broke into the starting lineup early in the season. He had a career-high 21 tackles against Georgia and added 20 against Arkansas.
Anderson lost his starting job midway through last season - even though he led the team in tackles at that point - and finished the season with 44 tackles. He finished his Kentucky career with 11 starts in 27 games.
''We wish him well in whatever he decides to do in the future,'' Brooks said.
