CHESHIRE - The errors were almost deadly, but the hits provided the salvation.

The Rock Hill Redmen almost killed themselves by making eight errors, but a 15-hit onslaught enabled the Redmen to outscore the River Valley Raiders 15-11 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

The eight Rock Hill errors led to eight unearned runs.

"We hit the ball well and scored some runs, but the errors killed us. It kept them in the game," Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral said.

Justin Lavender went 3-for-4 with a home run and Matt Wilson 3-3 to lead the Redmen. Nathan Wagner, Michael Williams and Mark Anderson were 2-4.

Wagner got the win with Artie Mullins picking up the save.

"Artie did a good job. He came in and pretty much shut the door. They got two unearned runs in the seventh, but he did pretty much what I asked him to do," Litteral said.

Lavender hit a solo home run in the first inning to put Rock Hill up 1-0.

River Valley scored twice in the bottom of the inning only to have Rock Hill tie when Wagner singled and went to second base on an error, took third on a fly ball and scored on Anderson's ground out.

The Redmen took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning when T.J. Blagg singled, stole second and came home on Wilson's base hit.

The Raiders came back with five runs in the bottom of the inning and led 7-3.

But then came Rock Hill's 9-run fourth inning as the Redmen went up 12-7.

With one out, Williams doubled and Anderson singled. Nick Howard had a base hit and the runners moved up on an error. K.C. Christian singled home both runners.

Blagg and Lavender walked, Wilson had a two-run single and Josh Moore doubled home a pair. A passed ball sent Moore to third and he scored when Wagner singled. Anderson then doubled home Wagner.

After River Valley got two runs in the fourth inning to trail 12-9, the Redmen got a run back in the top of the fifth inning. Christian walked, stole second and scored when Blagg was safe on an error.

The Redmen added two insurance runs in the seventh inning.

Lavender singled, Wilson and Chris Howard walked and two runs scored on a pair of passed balls.

River Valley got two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning before Mullins retired the side and ended River Valley's comeback hopes.

Rock Hill is 4-2 on the season and 2-2 in the league. The Redmen play at Fairland Wednesday.
