A South Point man will go to prison for his part in the robbery of an elderly woman earlier this year.

Phillip Wallace, 20, of 69 Township Road 1026, pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of robbery. Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge Frank McCown ordered Wallace to serve a 5-year sentence.

Wallace and two juveniles were arrested after a South Point area woman told police they took her purse while she was visiting the Sam's Club in Burlington. The incident happened March 24.

Others were sentenced in common pleas court this week as well. John Ackison, 39, of 1190 County Road 1, South Point, pleaded guilty Wednesday to possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge Richard Walton sentenced Ackison to 90 days in the Lawrence County Jail and four years community controlled sanctions under intensive supervised probation for the drug possession and 30 days in the county jail for the drug paraphernalia charge. Ackison will serve his sentences concurrently.

Walton also ordered Ackison

to pay a $1,250 fine and surrender his driver's license for six months. Eleven months in prison is reserved if Ackison violates the terms of his sanctions.

Ackison was one of six people arrested during an Ironton drug raid last month. More than 15 grams of crack cocaine was confiscated during the raid.

Also this week, another South Point man was sentenced to four years in prison for

his part in the burglary of a South Point residence earlier this year.

Jeremy Moore, 21 of 199 Township Road 1019, pleaded guilty May 4. When he sentenced Moore Wednesday, McCown also ordered him to pay restitution to his victim. The amount of the restitution has not been set.
