A Napoleon man was accused of being behind on his child support Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

About $57,000 behind.

David Shope, 37, appeared before Judge Charles Cooper and pleaded not guilty to six counts of criminal non-support for three children, three fifth-degree felonies and three misdemeanors.

Cooper ordered a $25,000 property bond and a $25,000 own recognizance (OR) bond and scheduled a pretrial for Feb 13.

Shope was represented by attorney Samantha Fields.

In other cases:

Gregory Mays, 28, of 1251 Township Road 138, Ironton, pleaded guilty to one count of fifth-degree breaking and entering of a garage in Coal Grove and one count of third-degree grand theft, which included semi-automatic firearms, shotguns, other firearms and ammunition.

Cooper sentenced Mays, also represented by Fields, to 11 months in prison for breaking and entering and two years for grand theft, to be served concurrently for a total of two years in prison.

Fields asked Cooper if Mays would be allowed a brief furlough to get his affairs in order before he began his sentence.

“My policy is not to do so,” Cooper said. “For the protection of the defendant and also for the protection of the community.”

Cooper instead said Mays could have family visitation at the courthouse.

David Christian, 35, of 61 Township Road 84 West, Willow Wood, had his bond reviewed for failure to provide prescription information after testing positive for prescription medication last Wednesday. Cooper modified his bond from $100,000 to $250,000 and scheduled a pretrial for Feb. 1.

Christian previously pleaded not guilty to nine counts of drug trafficking and one count of receiving stolen property.

Herbert Delawder, 33, of 109 Lane St., Coal Grove, admitted to a probation violation.

Cooper gave Delawder credit for time served and continued his probation, also known as community control sanctions and set a $25,000 OR bond.

“Report after this and you’ll complete your CCS,” Cooper told Delawder.

Joseph Inscoe, 31, of 80 County Road 408, Proctorville, pleaded guilty to one count each of theft and receiving stolen property. Cooper sentenced him to eight months in prison.
