SHERIDAN - The fire that just won't go out has not stopped many from thinking about the future of a southern Ohio landmark.

Firefighters from three departments were called back to the Grandview Inn and Suites Wednesday to continue to put water on hot spots.

Investigators with the Ohio State Fire Marshal's office were poring through the debris Wednesday and were back on the scene today.

Preliminary reports indicate the blaze began Tuesday morning in the kitchen due to a malfunction in a freezer, but the state fire marshal's office would not confirm that report.

&#8221We are still investigating, trying to find the nature of the fire,“ said Ken Crawford, assistant chief to the state fire marshal. &#8221We were inside yesterday, we are going back in today and will be working today to find something out.“

Even as officials try to figure out what happened in the past, owner Victor Hardan and hotel employees are looking to the future.

Operations manager Mandy Knipp has worked at the Grandview for 8 years. Seeing the damage of the place she worked and loved has been difficult, she said.

&#8221It has been very hard,“ she said. &#8221So many people have been calling and leaving messages saying how sorry they are. It is hard to hear.“

Knipp said she knows Hardan plans to rebuild the landmark, though details still have to be worked out with the insurance company.

The hotel rooms should be open in a few weeks, she said. A new dining area as early as next February.
