Ironton police will continue their investigation this week into the Friday hold up of the US Bank branch at South Third and Jones streets.

Det. Jim Akers said a man walked into the bank just before closing time and brandished a small caliber silver handgun.

&#8221He made the tellers get down on the floor and then he left with an undetermined amount of money,“ Akers said. &#8221They said he had on a straw hat and a dark-colored jacket or pullover and he had something pulled over his face. We're thinking it was a handkerchief.“

Akers said anyone with information is encouraged to call the detective's bureau at (740) 532-5606.

Friday afternoon's incident was the third hold up at that bank in a little more than a year, the second robbery in 2005. That bank branch was robbed in April by a gunman who fled in a Chevrolet van that had been reported stolen. The van was found abandoned at a car wash at Third and Heplar streets later.

The bank branch was also robbed June 24, 2004. In that incident, a lone gunman left the scene in an employee's car, which was found abandoned on Bartram and Sons grocery store parking lot several blocks away.
