SOUTH POINT - Despite the steady rain Monday, the small mountain of trash collected in the Village of South Point continued to grow.

&#8220We have a monstrous pile of trash in the field by the village hall,” said longtime Mayor Bill Gaskin. &#8220People talk about having cleanups, but I tell them they haven't seen nothing until they come to South Point.”

The village-wide cleanup efforts began Monday and will continue through Friday. The village organizes a cleanup twice every year, Gaskin said.

Residents can place trash, junk and other unwanted items at their tree lawn and village employees will haul it away. The workers will even come onto residents' property if they need a little assistance getting junk to the curb.

The village had two backhoes, four or five trucks and a handful of employees all fighting the rain Monday to add to the trash pile that will be collected and then hauled to a landfill, Gaskin said.

Residents can also bring unwanted items to the field next to village hall, located at 408 Second St., West. Anyone who needs assistance can call the village at (740) 377-4838.
