Santa Claus coming to Coal Grove

When Santa Claus visits Coal Grove Saturday he will have treats for the children but something for the adults, too — free pancakes.

Continuing the long-time tradition, the Coal Grove Betterment Club and the Coal Grove Lion’s Club will host Breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to noon at the high school cafetorium.

Old Saint Nick will be carrying 300 treat bags for the children at the free event.

“I think this is real important and the kids just love it. They love to talk to Santa,” said Sue Triplett, president of the Coal Grove Betterment Club.

“This brings all of Coal Grove together. That is really what the Betterment Club is for, to make us all one big family.”

Entertainment will include “the balloon man” and Dawson-Bryant Elementary School students will provide a musical program.

But the event really centers on the man in red and white.

“I love watching those kids’ faces when they sit on Santa’s lap,” Triplett said. “Their eyes get so big. They get so excited.”
