Tolsia foul shooting too much for Lady Pointers

FORT GAY, W.Va. — Charity doesn’t begin at home. It begins with the South Point Lady Pointers.

The Lady Pointers sent the Tolsia Lady Rebels to the charity stripe 40 times as the Lady Rebels used a big second half to blow open a close game and take a 90-58 win Monday.

Tolsia converted 32-of-40 foul shots including 23-of-27 in the second half.

Nicole Bragg had 21 points, Toni Farley 20 and Becky Robinson 17 to pace Tolsia.

Jessica Craft scored 17 points — 11 in the first half — and Missy Wheeler had 14 points to lead South Point (2-1).

Craft had eight points in the first quarter as South Point took a 13-12 lead.

Wheeler scored half of South Point’s 12 points in the second quarter only to see Tolsia scored 18 points and take a 30-25 lead at the break.

Tolsia outscored South Point 30-20 in the third quarter to lead 60-45. The Lady Rebels outscored South Point 30-13 in the final quarter.

PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Lady Dragons must have thought the rims had shrunk.

Fairland made only 17 of 81 field goal attempts — 21 percent — in a 59-51 loss Monday to the Portsmouth Lady Trojans.

“Offensively we just couldn’t get the ball moving,” Fairland coach Mindy Chapman said.

Brianna Davis had 20 points and eight rebounds for Fairland (1-2). Shea Berry added 14 points and Molly Bumgardner had 10 points and seven rebounds. Sara Hatfield also had seven rebounds.

Jennifer Bendolph poured in 27 points for Portsmouth. Sydney Jordan scored 12 points and Brya Coleman had 10 points.

Bendolph scored 10 points as Portsmouth went up 14-9 I nthe first quarter.

Davis had 10 points in the second quarter as Fairland got within 29-28 at the half. Bendolph had 11 points in the quarter.

The Lady Dragons took a 41-40 lead after three quarters, but Jordan and Bendolph combined for 10 points in the fourth quarter to rally the Lady Trojans.
