COAL GROVE — The showdown turned into showtime.

Jordyn Cox came off the bench to score 19 points as the Coal Grove Lady Hornets outlasted the South Point Lady Pointers and 29 points by Jessica Craft in a pivotal Ohio Valley Conference game Thursday.

“It was a big game for us. I told the girls they had to step up if they were going to be one of the best teams in the conference. To our girls’ credit, they stepped it up,” Lady Hornets coach Nick Miller said.

Samantha Hall scored 23 points and Chelsea Markins 15 as the Lady Hornets improved to 6-2 overall and remained tied for first place in the OVC at 3-0.

Amy Frasure was the only other Lady Pointer in double figures with 13. South Point is now 6-4 and 2-1.

“Jessi Craft played a great game. We couldn’t stop her. We’re fortunate that we have three girls who are capable of having a big game,” Miller said.

South Point took a 12-10 lead after the first quarter. Hall had eight points in the second quarter to help Coal Grove take a 25-23 halftime lead.

Craft had eight points in the quarter.

Craft had eight more points in the third quarter as South Point got within 38-37.

Hall got hot with 10 points in the fourth quarter while Craft had seven points to help send the game into overtime.

Cox, who had 18 points in the second half, scored nine of Coal Grove’s 13 points in the extra period as the Lady Hornets pulled away to the win.

“Jordyn Cox did a great job for us. She hit some big shots,” Miller said.

Sophomore Brittany Harrison, a starter, missed the game due to her grandfather’s poor health.

“We missed Brittany, but she needed to be with her family. Our prayers go out to them,” Miller said.
