PEDRO — Instead of a game of pitch and catch, the Chesapeake Panthers played pitch and hit.

The Panthers banged out 18 hits as they beat the Rock Hill Redmen 14-4 in six innings Wednesday.

“They hit the ball well. They hit everything we threw up there,” Redmen coach Barry Litteral said.

“We hit the ball, but if it could go wrong, it did.”

Clinton Baise went 4-for-4 to lead the Panthers. Cory Methax and Byron Huff were 3-5, Kyle Rase 2-3 and Kersten Harris and P.J. Rase 2-4.

The Panthers win leaves both teams tied for first place in the Ohio Valley Conference at 4-1.

P.J. Rase had a two-run single and Cory Methax slammed a three-run homer to highlight a six-run fourth inning. The Panthers had six hits in the inning.

The Panthers added a run in the fifth inning as Baise singled, moved to third base on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by P.J. Rase.

Rock Hill got two runs in the bottom of the inning.

T.J. Blagg walked, Michael Williams hit into a fielder’s choice, Carl Blankenship singled and J.C. Murnahan and Josh Guy followed with run-scoring singles.

But the Panthers erupted for seven runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.

Cory Methax and and Harris scored on a hit by Brad Eldred. Kyle Rase had an RBI double and Baise followed with a run-scoring hit.

P.J. Rase and Huff followed with back-to-back doubles to cap the uprising.

The Redmen closed out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

K.C Christian singled, Blagg walked and two wild pitches scored a run. Williams singled to drive in Blagg.

Harris went the distance to get the win.

Chesapeake is now 6-2 while Rock Hill is 6-1.
