Redmen keep offense going against Hornets, 12-3

PEDRO — The hit parade just keeps marching.

With their high-powered offense cranking out 14 hits, the Rock Hill Redmen beat the Coal Grove Hornets 12-3 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Coupled with South Point’s win over Chesapeake, the Redmen took over sole possession of first place with a 4-0 record.

“We just have to keep hitting the ball Wednesday and play good defense,” Redmen coach Barry Littleral said of his team’s game at home against Chesapeake.

“We’re getting good pitching. Hopefully, we can keep this momentum going.”

K.C. Christian, Michael Williams and J.C. Murnahan each went 3-for-4 to lead the offense. Carl Blankenship was 2-3 including a home run.

Randy Wise was 3-4, Mason Schug 2-3 and Tyler Branch 2-4 as Coal Grove banged out nine hits.

Coal Grove went up 2-0 in the top of the first inning.

Brian Bryant singled, Alex Johnson walked, a wild pitch moved the runners up and Branch had a two-run single.

Rock Hill came right back to score three in the bottom of the inning.

Christian singled, T.J. Blagg walked and Blankenship slammed a three-run homer.

The Redmen scored four more times in the second inning.

Nick Howard doubled and Christian had an RBI single. Blagg walked and Williams had a run-scoring single. Josh Moore hit a sacrifice fly and Murnahan hit an RBI single.

The Hornets got a run back in the fifth inning when Wise singled, Johnson walked and Branch had a run-scoring single.

But the Redmen put the game out of reach with five runs in the sixth inning.

Howard opened the inning with a two-base error and Christian singled him home. Williams and Moore had back-to-back RBI doubles and Blankenship singled.

Murnahan hit into a fielder’s choice as a run scored and Josh Guy singled with Murnahan coming home on an outfield error.

The Redmen are now 6-0 overall.

Coal Grove, 3-3 and 1-3, plays at Ashland, Ky., Tuesday.
