County right to look for airport help

The Lawrence County Commissioners are on the right flight pattern in creating an advisory panel that could be instrumental in helping the county’s airport truly take off.
Based on a variety of challenges in recent years, the county commissioners have agreed to create a panel that will help analyze issues facing the airport and help plan its future.
This became an even more important issue recently after a woman was injured there and filed a lawsuit against the county and the company that operated the Lawrence County Airpark. That company’s insurance provider has said its policy doesn’t provide coverage for this, prompting questions about who is responsible for what.
The airpark and its operation have been somewhat cloudy for several years, staying somewhat in transition after Attitude Aviation turned the management of it over to the Tri-State Pilots Association.
The bottom line is the county commissioners are not aviation experts and do not necessarily understand all the challenges tied to operating an airport. Having knowledgeable consultants will be a crucial resource that can be very important for the future.
The airport has much room to improve and the sky can truly be the limit with the right leadership and assistance by qualified advisors
