Proctorville woman dies in head-on crash

PROCTORVILLE — An 84-year-old woman was killed in a car accident Sunday morning on State Route 7, just outside the village of Proctorville.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that at about 10 a.m., Mildred L. Zimmerman, of Proctorville, was driving southbound in her 1996 Ford Crown Victoria near mile marker 6 when she veered off the right side of roadway, striking a guardrail.
Zimmerman then drove back onto the roadway, where she struck a 2001 Honda Odyssey driven by James C. Hacker, of Chesapeake, head on.
Both drivers were taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where Zimmerman was pronounced dead soon after. Hacker received injuries, but was treated and released. His wife, Mary, was a passenger in the vehicle and was also injured and remained in serious condition this morning at St. Mary’s.The accident remains under investigation.
Funeral arrangements for Zimmerman are pending at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville.
