CLEMSON, S.C. — Authorities have ruled that there was no alcohol involved in a freak accident that killed a Clemson University assistant track coach.
Clemson senior guard Roman Fry, a former All-Ohio lineman for the Ironton Fighting Tigers, was driving a personal watercraft that struck and killed 32-year-old assistant track coach Jarrett Foster last Saturday.
Fry underwent 20 different tests by authorities investigating the accident and passed each one according to his attorney, Beattie Ashmore.
The 6-foot-4, 295-pound Fry has not been charged in the accident.
Jarrett and Fry were among several friends driving personal watercrafts on Lake Keowee Saturday. Jarrett fell from his vehicle and his head struck the watercraft driven by Fry.
Fry was a second team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection last season and is expected to anchor a veteran offensive line. He is one of 54 players named to the Outland Trophy candidates’ list as the nation’s best college lineman. The winner of the award will be announced at the end of the season.
Although Fry has not worked out with the team this week due to the investigation, he was expected to rejoin workouts this morning.
