Proceeds to help with needs of school

Brooke Ridenour hopped on Santa’s lap Saturday, but showed little interest in any shopping list for the jolly old elf.

Now that beard of his, and the specs he uses to read other kids’ shopping lists, well, Brooke found them a lot more fascinating.

The first-ever Pancakes and Santa breakfast at the Open Door School was a chance for the big and the small to taste flapjacks, provided by the Ironton Lions Club, make a Christmas ornament and get in that all-important strategic meeting with Mr. Claus.

Krashawna Jones, from the Green High School Honor Society, helped the kids with the ornament making. Green and other schools sent youth volunteers to help.

“It’s a fun time, a good place for kids to make an ornament and see Santa,” Regina Clay, teacher’s aide at ODS, explained. “And it’s a fundraiser.”

School officials had no goal in mind for the first year, hoping to break even and maybe turn a profit next year when the event becomes better known.
