Wentz helps Fairland take 2nd at meet

PROCTORVILLE — Chuck Wentz outran the field and in the process the Fairland Dragons almost did the same.
Wentz took first place overall in the Fairland Third Annual Dragons Run by the River cross country meet Saturday. His effort nearly gave the Dragons an upset of the Huntington (W.Va.) Highlanders.
Huntington had 52 points to win the meet while Fairland was just five points back at 57. Spring Valley was third at 83.
Wentz ran a 17:58.2 time which was a 5:47.8 pace. He finished ahead of Jackson’s Bryce Wilson who ran an 18:23.1 time.
The next highest finishers for the Dragons were Joe Stewart at No. 15 (20:17.5) and Steve Tweel (20:21.1) who was 16th.
Coal Grove’s Chris Dirling was seventh with a 19:30.9 time to lead the Hornets. Ronald Harrison was 17th (20:34.3).
Chesapeake’s Adam Slone ran a 20:05.1 and Tyler Craven 20:05.5 to go 11th and 12th.
Zach Nelson of Rock Hill placed 20th at 20:46.7. Anthony Webb was 37th at 22:26.8.
Zach Christensen of Ironton was 35th with a 22:14.9 clocking and David Crossan 38th at 22:30.9. Jeff Lawless was No. 46 (23:18.2) and Tym Vandermosten No. 49 (24:03.8).
