PROCTORVILLE — Something just wasn’t in sync.
The South Point Lady Pointers might not have been in sync, but they still managed to get in the win column as they rallied in the second half to edge the Fairland Lady Dragons 56-51 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“The third quarter we came out and pushed the lead out but we let them come back. We just couldn’t seem to get clicking,” Lady Pointers coach Dave Adams said.
South Point (7-3, 3-0) remained tied with Rock Hill for first place in the league as Sarah Lee scored 15 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and had 6 assists.
“Lee was the difference. She got some big baskets for us,” said Adams.
Ericka Leighty added 10 points and 7 rebounds for the Lady Pointers.
Fairland suffered another tough-luck loss and fell to 2-5 and 0-3 in the OVC. Molly Bumgardner had 14 points and 6 rebounds for the Lady Dragons.
Leighty and Lee combined for 10 points in the first quarter as the Lady Pointers took a 12-11 lead.
Lauren Phillips had 5 points including a 3-pointer and Bumgardner scored 4 as Fairland came back to take a 26-25 lead.
South Point came back to take a 35-33 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Lee scored 6 points and Tinesha Taylor 4 points to help South Point maintain its lead. Megan Auxier hit a pair of 3-pointers to fuel Fairland’s upset effort in the fourth quarter.
South Point was 25 of 50 from the field but only 6 of 19 at the foul line including 3 of 10 in the fourth quarter.
“Free throws kept us from extending the lead,” said Adams.
