WELLSTON — Just like the movie with Jack Nicholson, for the Rock Hill Redwomen Monday’s season opener was “As Good As It Gets.”
Rock Hill had a good day in all phases of the game as they blanked the Wellston Lady Golden Rockets 8-0 Monday.
“It was a good win. Bobbi did a good job pitching and we played good defense and we had some good hitting. We played some people off the bench and they did a good job, too,” said Redwomen coach Mary Harper.
Bobbi Harper went the distance allowing four hits, striking out nine and not issuing a walk.
The game was scoreless until the third inning when Rock Hill pushed across three runs.
Brooke Long walked, Kayla Kelley hit into a fielder’s choice with all runners safe on an error. Megan Long’s bunt was misplayed for an error to load the bases.
Katina Settle doubled home two runs and later scored on a steal of home.
Rock Hill added a run in the fifth inning when Jazel DeAutremont and Bobbi Harper singled, Shelli Harper hit into a fielder’s choice and Candice Chaffins had a run-scoring single.
Long was safe on an error to start the sixth, Kristyn Phillips singled to put runners on the corners. Pinch-runner Elisha Daniels and Phillips scored on a double by Settle and DeAutremont had an RBI single.
The final Rock Hill run came across in the seventh when Chaffins and Daniels singled and Kelley hit into a fielder’s choice.
The Redwomen had 10 hits with DeAutremont, Settle, Chaffins and Bobbi Harper each getting two hits.
Rock Hill hosts Gallipolis on Thursday.
