SCIOTOVILLE — Tough Guys.

No, it’s not the movie starting Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster. Instead, it’s a description of the St. Joseph Flyers who posted their second win in a tough environment Friday as they beat the East Tartans 61-52.

“That was a big one. Two of the toughest places to win are New Boston and East and we got wins at both of them, so that’s big,” Flyers coach Kevin Hacker said.

Filling the staring role for the Flyers in “Tough Guys II” was Michael Basedow who poured in a game-high 27 points and also had 6 rebounds.

“We’re hoping Basedow stays on fire,” Hacker said.

Chad Harvey scored 12 points while Ryan Staton and Jerrod Laber had 5 rebounds each.

Hacker was also happy to welcome back guard Ryan Schwab who has missed the last two weeks due to an illness.

“It was huge having (Schwab) there tonight. We don’t have a lot of depth and when he’s out we have to dig down into the bench,” said Hacker.

The Flyers took a 16-10 lead at the end of the first quarter before East got within 30-27 at the half as Chase Dickerson scored 11 points. Basedow scored 10 of the Flyers 14 points in the quarter and had 15 in the half.

Basedow scored 6 and Staton 5 in the third quarter as St. Joseph upped its lead to 45-39.

The Flyers could have put the game away in the fourth quarter but only made 10 of 21 free throw attempts. Harvey was 3 of 4 at the line while Basedow scored 6 points including 4 at the line.

Dickerson led East with 20 points.
