Discussion will focus on vacating street, cable update
A short agenda awaits Ironton City Council when it meets this evening at 6 p.m.
There are two ordinances on the agenda. An ordinance to vacate part of Washington Street from Ninth Street to Jersey Alley is up for a second reading. An ordinance to amend the operations budget for the fiscal year 2011 may also get second reading.
Also on the agenda, a letter to Mayor Rich Blankenship from Time Warner Cable, the outfit that provides cable service to the city. In the letter, government relations manager Carla C. Deaton said the local TWC plans to begin carrying FSN Ohio HD. The letter did not say when this channel will be added to the TWC lineup.
Deaton also said the agreements TWC has with some programmers are due to expire soon and if new agreements are not reached, TWC must stop carrying such networks as E! Entertainment, the Encore channels, the Golf Channel, the Starz channels, WKYT, CMT, the Cooking Channel and WQCW.
“We are usually able to obtain renewals or extensions of such agreements and carriage of programming services is discontinued only in rare circumstances,” Deaton said in her letter.
Council will also discuss a letter from the Ohio Division of Liquor Control regarding alcoholic beverage permits in the city.
The meeting is on the third floor of the Ironton City Center. The regular council meeting would have fallen on Thanksgiving Day, therefore, the meeting was moved to today.
