AID — An error is part of baseball, but five of them …
The Symmes Valley Vikings had five errors in a 10-7 loss to the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
“We had a few key errors that hurt us. We should have won the game,” Vikings coach John Patterson said.
Ethan Wilson doubled and Brice Sexton singled to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Notre Dame rallied for five runs in the second inning to take a 5-1 lead.
“That inning really killed us,” Patterson said. “We hit well, they just scored five or six runs on errors.”
Symmes Valley came back with a run in the bottom of the inning on a home run by Brandon Bowling.
The Vikings cut the deficit to 5-4 in the third inning.
Robbie Powell and Wilson singled and Sexton beat out an infield hit with Powell scoring. Cody Bland singled to drive in Wilson.
Notre Dame got single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to lead 7-4.
Wilson walked and Sexton singled. Kyle Meadows singled for a run and Jeremy Hatfield hit a sacrifice fly.
Shipley doubled and Powell hit a long RBI single in the sixth inning to tie the game.
But the Titans rallied in the seventh on a bloop single, a walk and Trevin Coleman’s three-run homer.
Symmes Valley (3-7, 2-3) hosts Western Latham Friday in a regular scheduled game and the final four innings of an earlier meeting.
