GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. — The Kentucky State Police is investigating the discovery of human skeletal remains

found Friday in a wooded area off Happy Ridge Road in Greenup County near the Boyd County line.

According to a prepared statement from the KSP Ashland post, the remains were discovered by construction workers. Authorities have confirmed the remains were that of an adult male, but there is no additional information available as to cause of death and how long the remains had been in that area.

The case remains under joint investigation by the State Medical Examiner’s office, Greenup County Coroner and Detective Erik Kouns of the Kentucky State Police.

Several arrests made in South Point

SOUTH POINT — Ohio State Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle last week for a marked lanes violation on U.S. 52, near the County Road 1 Interchange in South Point.

After stopping the vehicle, troopers detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle. The driver, Richard A. Lamp, 26, of Massillon, was arrested for an OVI after he performed poorly on field sobriety tests.

Passengers were identified as Emily H. Brown, 24, and Adam P. Parsons, 27, both of Massillon.

Troopers searched the vehicle and found several baggies containing marijuana that were packaged for resale and several pills in an unmarked pill bottle. Troopers seized approximately 150 grams of marijuana.

Lamp was charged with a second offense OVI, trafficking in drugs and several traffic violations.

Brown was charged with a felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Parsons was charged with felony trafficking in drugs and a misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

All three occupants in the vehicle were incarcerated in the Lawrence County jail and set an arraignment date of Sept. 28 at 9 a.m. in Lawrence County Municipal Court.

Foothills Art Festival scheduled for Oct. 12

JACKSON — More than 500 works of art are expected for the 26th Annual Foothills Art Festival at Canter’s Cave 4-H Camp Lodge, five miles north of Jackson, off Route 35.

The festival is Friday, Oct. 12 through Sunday, Oct. 14. Friday and Saturday hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

There is no admission charge and parking is free. Both professional and emerging artists will have works on display.

Several musicians are scheduled, including guitarist Sean Ferguson performing on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and The Brighton Trio playing chamber music on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

On Sunday evening, a picnic under the trees will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. with folk music by Hartley and Joseph. Pack a picnic to bring or purchase a box supper at a modest price.

Kids are invited to try a variety of arts projects on the mezzanine from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
