Arts group hosting exhibit this weekend

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Tri-State Arts Association is hosting its annual Art In Ritter Park Exhibit from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday and from noon until 6 p.m. Sunday.

The event is free and open to the public.

 All TSAA members are juried artists and will be offering works for viewing and for sale in the fine arts of watercolor, acrylics and oils, pen and ink and other drawing media, wood carvings, stone sculpture, ceramics, pottery and clay works, photography, weaving, and jewelry.

Visitors are urged to come out and enjoy a peaceful walk in Huntington’s Ritter Park and view the exceptional art offered by TSAA.  They might find something for Dad on Father’s Day.  For additional info contact TSAA member Barbara Delligatti at (304) 743-5431.

 
84-year-old Huntington bridge to be demolished

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — An 84-year-old bridge in Huntington is coming down.

Officials with the state Division of Highways said Monday that the old Fifth Avenue Bridge over the Guyandotte River will be demolished Friday.

Built in 1926, the bridge carried traffic from Fifth Avenue to the city’s Guyandotte neighborhood. It’s been closed since 2007.

A new $3.8 million bridge is expected to open by September 2011.

Boyd Library hosts pirates triple play

ASHLAND, Ky. — Boyd County Public Library will host a “Pirates of the Caribbean Triple Play” on Saturday as part of the “Make a Splash” summer reading program.

All three Pirates movies will be shown at the Main Branch, 1740 Central Ave., starting at 9 a.m. There will be a 5-10 minute break between each film. People can come for one, or all three. Admission is free and some refreshments will be provided. Additional snacks can be purchased.

“Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl” (2003) will be shown first, followed by “Dead Man’s Chest” (2006) at approximately 11:30 a.m. The third in the series, “At World’s End,” (2007) will start around 2 p.m. All the films are rated PG-13.

The Library is also showing “Make a Splash” movies every Friday at noon at Main throughout July. These are all kids/family movies and those who come are invited to bring their lunch.
