Volunteers brighten city park

A few things old are new again.
On Saturday, a group of volunteers from Marathon Ashland Petroleum, Inc., spent the morning painting and generally sprucing up the kiddie section of Beechwood Park.
The park, owned and operated jointly by the city’s recreation department and the Ironton City Schools, has been loved and used over the years and all that affection, so to speak, had taken its toll.
The volunteers painted equipment and “just about anything that needed painted,” City recreation director Brett Thomas said.
The helping hand was appreciated.
“With my budget, I just don’t have the money to spend on every park we have,” Thomas said.
“I appreciate the volunteers who were willing to help us. It was nice of them to take an interest in the community.”
MAP volunteers will make refurbishments to other parts of the park in the near future.
