McARTHUR — AT&T might be checking the Vinton County Lady Vikings long distance charges after reading Monday’s boxscore.
After making only three 3-pointers this season, Vinton County hit 10 including eight by Tori Dixon as they beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 74-42.
“They just hit their shots,” said Rock Hill coach Matt Fulks. “We played pretty well considering. I can’t fault our effort. We had four girls out for various reasons.
Dixon scored 28 points to lead the Lady Vikings (4-0). Rebecca Puckett added 13 points.
Long led Rock Hill (1-3) with 20 points as she hit four shots from behind the arc.
The game was 10-10 at the end of the first quarter as Dixon had all of the Vikings points. Long had 6 for Rock Hill.
But Vinton County outscored the Redwomen 24-7 in the second quarter to lead 34-17.
“We went in at half down 17 and we battled,” said Fulks. “Brooke Long had a good game, and even though it didn’t show up with points, Brooke Skinner and Amy Layne had good games. They’ve both improved.”
Dixon hit four treys in the third quarter to offset 9 points by Long as Vinton County pulled away to a 57-32 lead.
