PAC to host five scary one-act plays

ASHLAND, Ky. — The Paramount is offering two evenings of scary plays in an event called “Tales of Suspense,” Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. “The Lottery,” “The Veldt,” “Reunion on Gallows Hill,” The Cask of Amontillado,” and “The Monkey’s Paw” are the featured plays of the evening.

Not only are there are lot of scary twists in each play, but there are some unique aspects to the whole evening.

The plays are being directed by people who took the Directing 101 class offered at the Paramount.

Under the supervision of Paramount Player director, Melanie Sweeney, five new directors have been learning how to cast a play, do blocking, read-throughs, set design and sound effects.

This performance will showcase the work of the directors and their first foray into this profession.

In addition, audience members will get to vote on their favorite play and favorite actors at the end of the evening.

Each play is approximately 15 minutes long.

Admission is $10 per person and can be purchased at the box office.

Nursing home to sponsor Safe Trick or Treat

WHEELERBURG — The residents at Best Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wheelersburg almost always like guests. But Oct. 24, the residents plan to dress up for them — dress up, that is, in Halloween costumes.

The facility will have its fourth annual Safe Trick or Treat 5-6:30 p.m. on that day. Young folks are invited in to get some candy and share some time with the young at heart.

“The residents love seeing the kids come in wearing their costumes. We’re having our Halloween party that day so some of the residents will be dressed up, too,” activities director Kayla Culp said.

Best Care is located at 2159 Dogwood Ridge in Wheelersburg. Culp said last year 100 kids showed up.

OLBH will offer shots at all three branches of BCPL

ASHLAND, Ky. — Boyd County Public Library is once again teaming up with Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital to offer flu shots to the community.

OLBH representatives will be at all three library branches in the next two weeks. The cost $20 for those without Medicare.

Flu shots will be available on the following dates and times:

• Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Main Branch, 1740 Central Ave.

• Thursday, Oct. 27, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Kyova Branch, located in the Kyova Mall, across from Elder-Beerman.

• Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Catlettsburg Branch, 2704 Louisa St.
