Rock Hill blanks Raiders

PEDRO — Finally, a game.
With only a suspended game under their belts so far this season, the Rock Hill Redmen still got eight hits and blanked the River Valley Raiders 9-0 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“This was only our second game, but we hit the ball pretty well,” said Redmen coach Barry Litteral. “We had chances to put the game away early. We just need to play and get our timing.”
The Redmen got all the runs they needed in the first inning as they scored four times.
Drew Kuehne singled, stole second, took third on a wild pitch, and Seth Kuehne hit a sacrifice fly.
Nathan Davenport reached on an error and Zach Zornes hit a two-run homer. Mitchell Davenport singled, stole second, and scored on Andy Smith’s base hit.
The Redmen got a run in the third when Zornes was hit by a pitch, moved up on two wild pitches, and scored on Mitchell Davenport’s base hit.
Drew Kuehne doubled, Seth Kuehne was hit by a pitch, and Nate Davenport and Zornes walked to force in a run in the fourth.
Mark DePriest was safe on an error, stole second, and came home on two wild pitches. Josh Christian was hit by a pitch and scored ona passed ball.
Zornes hit a solo home run in the sixth.
DePriest got the win as he went 5.2 innings. He allowed two hits, struck out seven and walked two.
Rock Hill (1-0, 1-0) hosts Coal Grove Friday.

CHESAPEAKE — When the Coal Grove Hornets experience Murphy’s Law, things go right.
Brothers Zack and Jake Murphy combined to go 5-for-7 as the Hornets rolled past the Chesapeake Panthers 16-3 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
“We told the boys we had to come out fast and set the tone and we did,” said Hornets coach John Jones. “Jake and Zack both have been hitting well.”
Jake Murphy was 3-4 with a double and a three-run triple. Zack was 2-3 and three runs scored.
Coal Grove went up 2-0 in the top of the first. Jake Murphy was safe on a fielder’s choice, Alex Johnson doubled and Taylor Dean had a two-run single.
The Panthers got a run in the bottom of the first. Clinton Baise walked, Matt Angle singled to put runners on the corners, and Kyle Rase grounded out for an RBI.
Coal Grove scored five runs in the second.
With two outs, Zack Murphy and Jake Murphy walked and Johnson doubled home a run. Dean was walked to load the bases and David Bridges hit a grand slam home run.
Chesapeake got a run back when Colton Lindsey singled, Jon Baise reached on an error and Clinton Baise singled.
The Hornets went up 9-2 in the third inning with two more runs.
Shannon Goodwin and Oakie Haynes singled and Jake Murphy had a two-out, RBI single. Johnson was safe on an error and Dean had a run-scoring single.
Coal Grove scored two in the fourth when Tyler Allen walked, Haynes singled, Zack Murphy walked, and Jake Murphy had a two-out, two-run double.
The Panthers got a run in the bottom of the inning when Lindsey walked, moved up on a wild pitch and ground out, and scored when Stephen McComas grounded out.
The Hornets put the game away with five runs in the sixth.
Ramey, Goodwin and Zack Murphy all singled to load the bases. Jake Murphy triple home all three runners and he scored on Johnson’s base hit. After a passed ball, Dean had an RBI single.
Bridges got the win as he struck out five and walked three.
Coal Grove is 3-1 and 2-00 in the OVC. Chesapeake is 1-3 and 0-2.
