The Coal Grove Volunteer Fire Department is going to celebrate its 75th year of service in two years and the fire chief is asking for a little help in their celebration.

Fire Chief Gary Sherman said they are looking for items related to the fire department— photos, news articles, old equipment, anything at all.

“We are looking for any and all information that anyone might have about our fire department,” Sherman said. “We are just trying to gather stuff together, any pictures, any articles, old fire equipment-Anything.”

Sherman said they don’t have anything related to the department because the fire station burned down in 1976, taking all the relics of the past with it.

He said if anyone has any old photographs they would like to borrow them long enough to make copies.

“We just want to duplicate them, we don’t have to keep them,” Sherman said.

He said other items like fire helmets or other Coal Grove VFD equipment can be loaned to the fire department and returned after their celebration.

“If they want to give it to us-great, if not, we will return it,” he said. “We want any type of memorabilia at all.”

He said that while the anniversary isn’t for another two years, they are planning on having a big display at the firehouse and an open house with food and inflatables.

The firefighters are also trying to track down their original 1935 fire engine.

“Supposedly, its at the Minford Volunteer Fire Department as a parade engine,” Sherman said. “We are going to talk to them and see if we can get it over here for the day.”

The Minford VFD is in Scioto County.

Sherman said the VFD is on a mission.

“To not only get things for the anniversary but to just get things together because we have nothing,” he said. “So any help we can get on this would be great.”
