A hearing will be conducted Monday in the matter of the Ironton police officer who is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of “internal and external investigations.”

Mayor Rich Blankenship said the pre-disciplinary hearing, which is not open to the public, is being conducted in accordance with the Fraternal Order of Police contract.

“I want to do this professionally and I want to follow the book on it,” Blankenship said.

He said he has, according to the F.O.P. contract, 10 days after the hearing in which to decide if there will be punishment and what that punishment will be.

The name of the officer and details about what that officer did is not being made public until after the mayor makes his decision.

The hearing will be at the Ironton City Center.

On Oct. 7, city officials said the officer was being investigated by the Ironton Police Department and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation. At that time Blankenship said the internal investigation was whether policies of the Ironton Police Department had been broken and that BCI investigation was whether there was criminal action.
