AID — Good pitching and good hitting always makes for a good day.

Will Jones and Tanner Thompson combined to drive in eight runs, Tanner Corn threw a 3-hitter, and the Symmes Valley Vikings rolled past the Eastern Eagles 16-2 on Monday night in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Jones drove in four runs and finished 3-for-4 at the plate. His final hit was a triple in fourth that set up the Vikings’ final run of the game when the senior catcher scored on a base hit by Corn.

Thompson went a perfect 3-3 with a double into deep left field in the second that cleared the bases as the sophomore racked up 4 RBIs in the game as well.

Tanner Corn went 2-4 with 2 RBIs, Braden Hankins went 2-2 with a double. Jackson Fields drove in 2 runs and Bronx Carpenter and Gradee Holland each had an RBI.

The Vikings rattled off 11 runs in five hits in the bottom of the first.

Most of the damage was done when Jones singled in two runs and Thompson cranked a double into left to score three runs and extend the Vikings (10-5, 5-2 SOC) lead to 11-0.

Symmes Valley piled on four more in the second, as Hankins doubled to lead off, and later scored on an error. Then Thompson and Jones singled in a run each, and Jackson Fields drove in a run.

Corn pitched all five innings to pick up the win, allowing just 3 hits, an earned run, walked four and struck out 6.

The Eagles (1-11, 1-4) only runs came when Aidan Lloyd singled in a run in the second and Trey Kelly doubled into left to score a run in the fifth.

The Vikings are back in action on Wednesday when they host South Gallia.
