Lonnie Lee Triplett, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Coal Grove on Sunday morning, April 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and under the compassionate care of Community Hospice.

Born on Aug. 31, 1944, at Ironton General Hospital, Lonnie was the cherished son of Robert L. “Pa” Triplett and Victoria “Ma” Triplett.

He was raised in South Point and graduated from South Point High School.

In the spring of 1965, Lonnie met the love of his life, Donna Sue (Collins) Triplett. Their bond was immediate and profound, leading to their marriage on Aug. 10, 1965. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, spanning nearly 60 years.

Shortly after their wedding, Lonnie honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967, stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War era.

Upon returning home, he pursued higher education, earning a degree in Business from Ashland Community College.

His professional journey included roles at Ben Williamson and Ironton Solvay, culminating in a dedicated tenure with the Lawrence County Engineers, from which he retired.

Lonnie’s life was rich with passions, foremost among them his love for music.

A gifted guitarist, he shared his talents for over 25 years with the Country Knights, bringing joy to countless community events. His musical collaborations with dear friends Darrell Davis, Richard Knipp, Don Gee, and many others were sources of immense pride and fulfillment.

Family was the cornerstone of Lonnie’s life.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Donna Sue Triplett; daughters, Cindy Triplett Gallagher (Gary), Peggy Triplett, Amanda Simpson (Chuck) of Jacksonville, Florida, and Savanna Triplett (Tate). His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Emily Adkins (Isaac), Victoria Campo (Alex) of Jacksonville, Florida, Natalee Barker (Austin), Italee Simpson and Angel (Ethan) Cunningham, a special grandson, Corey Newman, and a special granddaughter, Hope Ratcliff. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Alaina and Chloe Barker, Carter and Meelah, of Jacksonville, Florida, and eagerly anticipated the arrival of Jeremiah Adkins.

Lonnie is also survived by his brother, Charles Triplett (Deloris), of Virginia; and nieces and nephews, Robert “Bobby” Triplett (Roberta), Lonnie Triplett (Jill), Sharon Dolin (Steve), William “Billy” Triplett (Laura), Johnny Childers (Teresa), Teresa Layne, Tammy Layne (Randy), Gary Triplett, Karen Triplett, Debbie Triplett, Mike Triplett, Jeffrey Triplett, and Danny Triplett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Ada Mae Triplett, Robert “Bob” Triplett (Hilda), Mary Dennison (Charlie), William “Bill” Triplett (Louann), John Triplett (Charlotte), Elizabeth Ann “Tan” Childers; and nephew, Bobby Black.

Lonnie’s gentle spirit, unwavering dedication, and profound love for his family and music left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

His life was a melody of kindness, resilience, and harmony.

A celebration of Lonnie’s life will be 5–8 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace Family Funeral Home, South Point, with a time of shared memories and support starting at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Community Hospice in honor of Lonnie’s compassionate caregivers.
