Ironton wins OVC wrestling tourney

The Ironton Fighting Tigers won the Ohio Valley Conference wrestling tournament as they won all four team matchups against South Point, Chesapeake, Fairland and Gallipolis Gallia Academy. CENTENARY — The Ironton Fighting Tigers left no doubt who was the best wrestling team.

The Fighting Tigers won all four team matches and captured the Ohio Valley Conference team championship at Gallia Academy High School.

Ironton beat South Point 66-6, Fairland 60-18, Chesapeake 42-30 and Gallia Academy 36-33.

Ironton individual champions were Liam Almekinder in the 113-pound class, Nate Sloan at 132, and Barkley Litton in the 175 division.

Fairland came away with the individual awards as C.J. Graham — state runner-up last season — was the Most Valuable Wrestler in the lower weight classes while Will Callicoat was the upper weight class Most Valuable Wrestler.
