CROWN CITY — There’s the old saying that “two’s company, three’s a crowd.”

And in the case of the Symmes Valley Vikings, three’s make a crowd when it comes to scoring.

Seven different Vikings scored from behind the arc on Friday night to give Symmes Valley a 79-56 win over the South Gallia Rebels in a Southern Ohio Conference 2 game.

The two who did the most damage from deep were guards Ethan Smith and Bronx Carpenter with 4 a piece. Smith finished with a double-double, scoring 22 points and 10 assists — both game highs. Carpenter added 19 points and 7 rebounds on the night.

Gradee Holland, Tanner Corn, Andy Strow, Noah Hutchison, and Asher Maynard also connected from downtown in the win.

The Vikings began to take control in the dwindling stages of the first period, as Smith scored on a midcourt pass from Carpenter. Then Smith followed that up with a triple from the corner on the ensuing possession.

Maynard capped things off with a 3-pointer as time expired to give the Vikings a 22-13 lead after one.

The Rebels (4-16, 0-9) made things interesting in the second, cutting the Vikings’ lead down to 31-28 on Tanner Sanders’ jumper from the baseline at the 2:56 mark.

But the Vikings would widen the gap back out when Smith hit a pair of 3-pointers and Maynard followed up by drawing a foul on a basket to get the old-fashioned three-point play.

Then Carpenter connected for this third triple of the night to end the first half and give the Vikings a 45-32 lead at the break.

Symmes Valley (14-6, 7-2) continued to pour it on in the third period, outscoring the Rebels 20-8 in the frame.

Smith, Carpenter and Will Jones all led with 4 points. Both Corn and Holland found the bottom of the net from the 3-point line, and Logan Simpkins made a reverse layup to help pad the Vikings lead to 65-40 after three.

The Vikings ended the game with three-straight triples from Strow, Carpenter and Hutchison in order to set the final score.

Hayden Kemp led the Rebels with 18 points, Carson Stowers scored 15, and Layne Wright added 10.
