COAL GROVE — What’s better than having a player getting the hot hand and racking up a lot of points?

How about two players?

Maddox Kazee scored 31 points and Kaden Perkins had 24 points as the Chesapeake Panthers rolled past the Coal Grove Hornets 75-43 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.

Chesapeake is now 16-1 overall and 10-0 in the OVC, one-half game behind Fairland who is 11-0.

The game was close in the first quarter as Chesapeake led just 13-11 as Kazee hit a 3-pointer and scored 7 points.

Rylan Smith hit a 3-pointer and pair of free throws while Owen Johnson scored 4 points for the Hornets in the first quarter.

But the Panthers took charge in the second quarter and outscored the Hornets 20-5 and the lead was 33-16 at the half.

Perkins and Kazee scored 8 points each to lead the scoring burst.

The same duo helped the Panthers to a 22-point third quarter with Kazee hitting a pair of 3-pointers and scoring 10 points and Perkins getting 8 more and the lead was 55-37.

Johnson scored 9 points including a 3-pointer while Smith knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points with Bradley Klaiber adding 4 points.

The Perkins-Kazee duo also scored 6 points each in the fourth quarter.

Brayden Klaiber scored 4 points and Johnson had a basket to account for the Hornets’ scoring in the quarter.

Coal Grove (7-11, 2-10) was led by Johnson with 17 points, Smith 13 and Brayden Klaiber 9.
