Barbara Waginger

Barbara Ann Kouns Waginger was born July 6, 1931 in Ashland, Kentucky.

She was the daughter of the late Edgar L. and Margaret E. Farmer Kouns.

She was the wife of the late Andrew J. Waginger, who passed away on June 15, 2008. The couple was married June 11, 1955, at Holy Family Church in Ashland, Kentucky.

Barbara graduated from Ashland High School in 1949.

She was a member of St. Joseph Church.

She was a devoted and valuable employee to the Spriggs’ family and retired from Spriggs Distributing Company in 1996. Barbara dearly loved her Spriggs’ “Boys.”

She was a member of The Child Welfare Club and served two terms as president.

She also was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club. Barbara organized the renovations at Calvary Cemetery. She showed her love and devotion to St. Joseph Athletics by providing uniforms and various supplies to the athletic program.

Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family and they loved and cherished her. She was affectionately known as MomMom.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers William “Joner” Kouns, Paul Kouns, Melvin Kouns, and Ivan “Jacko” Kouns; an infant sister Eleanor Francis Kouns; a grandson Paul Jeffrey Waginger.

She is survived by five sons, James Michael (Mariclare), Joseph Leslie (Leigh Ann), John Edgar (Tammy), Paul Jarod (Marilyn), David Allen (Stephanie); one daughter, Andrea Elizabeth (Mark) Harvey; seven grandsons, Eric (Kristin), Ryan, Tommy (Laura), Joshua (Courtney), John (Kayla), Brigham, and Chad (Kelly). Three granddaughters Christina (Kurt) Jordan, Spencer (Shannon) Waginger, Sydney (Zach) Johnson, 16 great-grandchildren Beckham, Barrett, Bentley, Boston, Kimora, Ayden, Kase, Kori, Luca, Nellie Waginger; Kayden and Rowen Booker; Bailey and Andi Jordan; Ellie and Lincoln Harvey. She is also survived by one sister-in-law Frieda Rose Waginger Holmes and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved and cared for deeply.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Wayne Morris officiating. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
